The entire Reykjanes Peninsula is a hotbed of geothermal activity and is populated by a number of volcanoes. As a result two power plants have been stationed there to harness this clean energy; Svartsengi, whose runoff creates the famous Blue Lagoon, and the Reykjanes Power Plant completed in 2012 .

Note:  At this time it is not possible to visit the Reykjanes Power Plant.
